Underworld entails vampires and werewolves in a battle for power. The series takes place in the modern age where humans are at the bottom of this food chain. This film has vampires and werewolves do not like each other; however, their hatred does not make them any less competitive (Kostya & Francesco, 2011). This may shed some light on the reason the two species are fighting over power. Anyone who watches movies at least once in their lifetime may be familiar with the story line of Underworld because its popularity has grown beyond that of just normal viewers. This film is action packed with two beautiful races trying to prove they are better than one another. The two species have extreme personalities that differ from each other. The vampires in the movie have a lot of money and wealth while werewolves are treated as slaves and live under the shadow of vampires. The plot of the story is brilliant and gives viewers a lot of character development from both werewolves and vampires. In other words, this really makes the film more interesting because the viewer’s imagination is able to create an image for themselves. There is controversy over who will win in a war between werewolves and vampires since they are both equally matched in physical strength despite their differences. The werewolf vs vampire rivalry has been going on for centuries with no end in sight for either race (Kostya & Francesco, 2011). The werewolf and vampire’s rivalry begins with a group of vampires trying to capture a werewolf. The two sides have been fighting for a long time, however, this is the first time they have ever met face to face. In other words, this film has viewers experience the struggle between vampires and werewolves firsthand. “I never saw you as the kind of man who would like to live like this; but that's what we do … we live like it's our last day on earth , that we only got … minutes left; and I don't want them to pass without an attempt at greatness… (James McAvoy, Underworld: Awakening). ” Both the werewolf and the vampire are very close to achieving their goals in this film. The werewolf, Selene, is currently being chased by the newly created vampires after she finds out that she is being held captive in a lab facility. However, Selene does not know why these vampires are keeping her prisoner. On the other hand, Viktor determines that he will continue to try to capture Selene because he believes that she has inherited some of her mother’s natural ability.
